I find Somatic Experiencing works very well with Natural State Restoration. Somatic experiencing helps you to learn about the signals the body sends out and the way the body can be altered by aversive experience such as cumulative stress and traumas. I have been using somatic practices with my clients for decades but just finished 100 hours of training from the brilliant Kathy Kain and am now certified in this approach.
A large part of my practice is with people with auto-immune issues and recover from illness and brain damage. My work in the New York area with many first responders and veterans has shown great success but the approach works just as well with anxiety and depression.
I’ve developed a novel approach to grief and loss. To sum it up I belief that grief is the same as love. If we learn to fully accept the grief we can fully live in the love we have for the ones that have gone before us.
‘Tis a fearful thing
to love what death can touch.
A fearful thing
to love, to hope, to dream, to be –
to be,
And oh, to lose.
A thing for fools, this,
And a holy thing,
a holy thing
to love.
For your life has lived in me,
your laugh once lifted me,
your word was gift to me.
To remember this brings painful joy.
‘Tis a human thing, love,
a holy thing, to love
what death has touched.”
