Therapy Techniques
In addition to Natural State Restoration I have several different techniques available to help you and your family make changes. If I don’t have the right skill for you I will try to find someone who does.
The body has a story to tell. Somatic Experiencing and Natural State Restoration give us the tools to listen to the body and to heal old hurts. Unwarranted shame, shame at simply being human, leaves a scar in the body the same way a surigcal cut leaves a scar. Natural State Restoration is particularly useful in reducing inflammation: that goes from irritable bowel to the brain inflammation underneath anxiety. By worrying about those things we paradoxically increase the inflammation. We can quickly learn to sense the “temperature” in our body and can learn the skills to cool it.
The modalities and services I can provide are:
- Marriage and family therapy
- Somatic Experiencing
- Treatment for anxiety, depression, thought disorders (different ways of thinking), and problems with personality
- Individual therapy and counseling (the choice depends on the depth of work required to make a change)
- DBT “For the Rest ‘f Us” – DBT adapted for the general population
- Group therapy
- Sex Therapy (I am no longer working for certification but attend trainings and read up-to-date texts.
- Wellness planning such as WRAP (Wellness and Recovery Action Planning) to build a set of skills to maintain overall health
- Services for children who have experienced bullying or who have victimized other children
- Consultations to schools in the areas of bullying, critical incidents and victimization
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). A method to reduce harmful behaviors
- Psychotherapy supervision (licensed by British Columbia and New York State)
